    Portugal Junior International 2023

Ulster Emerging Performance Squad player Paige Woods took home an impressive Bronze Medal at the Portugal Junior International with partner Michelle Shochan.

Selected as part of the U19 Irish Team to compete at the event the Irish Pair had an excellent opening round win against the 8th Seeds from Spain with a
21-18, 20-22, 24-22 score line. In the second round they put on another impressive display, winning in 2 sets, 21-16, 21-11 against a good Danish pair. In the Quarter Final they were up against the 4th Seeds from France. The French pair came out strong in the opening game taking it 21-12, but Paige & Michelle upped their performance in the 2nd and 3rd set to win 21-19, 22-20.

In the Semi Final they again faced a French pair. The Irish pair maintained their performance level from the quarter finals to win a tight opening set 22-20. The French pair fought back in the 2nd set taking it 21-15 to force a deciding set and a place in the Final. It was even at the mid game interval but the French pair pushed on during the later stages to win 21-16.

Some great wins over Seeded opponents during the competing and a well deserved Bronze Medal 🥉
