The Ulster Badminton Juvenile Club Initiative was step up in 2006 as the organisation
looked to set up new Branch run clubs in areas of the country that we felt would benefit from such a scheme. We looked at popular badminton areas, those that had good links with schools and where it would be of benefit to the already existing club structure in the area. As well as this we also considered those areas where badminton historically hasn’t been as popular with a view to growing the sport in new areas.
The first 3 clubs where established in Antrim, Coleraine and Craigavon. Over the last few
years the programme has grown to include clubs in Carrickfergus, Strabane, Carryduff, Enniskillen and a Disability Club in Lisburn.
We feel these clubs are vital to give players a greater opportunity to improve their
skills at a young age and ultimately to improve the standard of badminton province wide. All clubs are managed and run by qualified Badminton Ireland coaches many of whom have represented Ulster and Ireland at international level.
Ulster Badminton are keen to grow this programme and would be delighted to hear from
any club representative that would be keen for their club to be involved. Also if you are interested in joining one of the clubs in the above mentioned areas then please contact ryanprentice@ulsterbadminton.com
