Ulster Badminton consists of a group of committed volunteers and professional staff who are responsible for managing badminton throughout the province of Ulster. We are based at the National Badminton Centre in Lisburn.

2013 Ulster Badminton Youth Games – Results

Well done to all the players and coaches who participated in the 2013 Ulster Badminton Youth Games on Saturday 11th May in the National Badminton Centre, Lisburn.

A total of 92 players competed, representing 8 squads/clubs and on the day they were 235 matches played.

The following players and teams came out top;

Under 13

Boys  -Siam Alderdice,   Girls  - Kim Laird,   Team – Donegal RDS

Under 15

Boys  - Mark Laird,  Girls  - Beth Stephenson,  Team - Donegal RDS

Under 17

Boys  - Jon McCready,  Girls  - Caitlin Steele,  Team - Alpha Badminton Club

Steve Butler Coach Education Workshop

The next session in the series of Coach Education Workshops will be delivered by Steve Butler former USA and England National Coach (take a look at Steve’s profile http://www.teamforza.co.uk/wp/coaches/steve-butler/).  

This session will take place at The National Badminton Centre on Saturday 18th May beginning at 9am and will finish at 5pm.

The day will involve 3 sessions in total with two of them being  based on court and a further theory session based around video analysis.

Performance Programmes-Physical Testing Day

IMG-20130131-00017On Saturday 25th May Ulster Badminton will be running a physical testing day for all the players on the Performance Stream at Lisburn Racquets Club.  This will be part of the player’s annual review from this season going forward.

BWF VI World Senior Championships 2013

bwfThe BWF World Senior Championships are held every two years. This is an individual championships with men’s and women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events.

The VI World Senior Championships are due to be held 9th – 14th September 2013 in Ankara Spor Salunu Stadium, Ankara, Turkey.

Sainsbury School Games 2013

The following team has been confirmed for the 2013 School Games, Sheffield, 12-15th September:

Boys: Ryan Getty, Ryan MacBeth, Norman Lau, Matthew Lightbody, Curtis Presho, Ross Lightbody

Girls: Kerri Scott, Caitlin Steele, Rachael Darragh, Rebecca Getty

The Sainsbury’s 2013 School Games is a multi-sport event for the UK’s elite young athletes of school age. Building on the success of the inaugural finals held in the Olympic Park in 2012, the Sainsbury’s 2013 School Games is being held in the city of Sheffield from 12-15 September.

Ulster Win Inter County League Title!

The Ulster Senior team have won promotion to Division 4 of the English Inter County League with emphatic wins in their final 2 matches to win the Division 5 title.

The team travelled to Cambridgeshire on the 13-14th April knowing that 1 win would guarantee winning the title and gain back to back league promotions.

Playing at Cambridge Regional College the young Ulster team including 3 U17 players and 4 U19 players, produced some great performances to win their home tie 12-3 and away tie 14-1.

Designated Officer Training.

Ulster Badminton will host a Designated Officer Course on Wednesday 1st May 2013. The workshop will take place at the National Badminton Centre, Lisburn between 7-10pm.

The workshop is aimed primarily at Designated Safeguarding Children’s Officers within clubs. The training will provide participants with further understanding to assist in their role of safeguarding children in sport. Continue reading

Ulster Badminton Youth Games 2013

Youth gamesThe 2013 Ulster Badminton Youth Games will be held on Saturday 11th May!

This season for the first time ever Clubs will be allowed to enter players into the competition.There are other changes to the structure with both an individual and team element to the competition with all competitors getting more matches.  For a full list of the rules please download Youth Games 2013 – Rules

Any clubs or squads interested in entering players can do so by returning a completed Ulster Badminton Youth Games 2013 – Entryto Scott Burnside at the Ulster Badminton Office by mail  or scottburnside@ulsterbadminton.com by email.
