Ulster will play in Division One of the English Inter County League next season after the completion of the final series of matches. Player Coach Conor Hickland said,” We were clear winners of Division Two North and had our strongest team out for the final ties.” Four members of the team, Ciaran and Sinead Chambers, Tony Murphy and Tony Stephenson were part of the Northern Ireland team which achieved Badminton’s best ever results in the last Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and also included were three of Ireland’s best Under -19 players, Beth Stephenson and twin sisters Rachael and Rebecca Woods. I have been with the team from we started down in Division Five in the 2011-2012 season and a big squad of Ulster players have made a great contribution to the annual promotion path to Division One.
William Martin, President of the Ulster Branch said, “ Great credit must go to all the players who played their part in Ulster’s successful return to the top. It is a major commitment by the Branch and I would like to thank our sponsors Walsin for their valuable support. In turn, Walsin Director Neil Walker said”, Walsin Ltd are delighted to contribute to the Ulster Senior Team’s triumphant year. We have had a successful partnership with Ulster Badminton for two years and we want to take this opportunity to wish them the best of luck for the 2017/18 season”.”
